Understanding Accountability for 2021-2022 - Key Details and Proposed Changes for 2022

  • The US Department of Education (USED) has indicated they will not extend waivers of accountability requirements to states in 2022.
  • Given the impact of pandemic-related data limitations on states' accountability systems, USED has provided an opportunity for states to submit addenda to their ESSA plans for 2022.
  • Georgia is working to ensure that the 2022 CCRPI is realistic and takes into account the extraordinary circumstances of the last two years.
  • There will be no overall, 0-100 scores, including letter grades for the state, districts, or schools.
  • Content Mastery will continue to be calculated as it was and participation rates will be reported.
  • Progress in ELA and Math will not be reported; 2022 scores will be used to set new post-pandemic baselines for calculating SGPs (Student Growth Percentile).
  • Progress towards English language proficiency will be reported.
  • Closing Gaps will not be calculated.  2022 testing data will be used to establish a new baseline for future years including calculating improvement targets.
  • Student Attendance will not be reported along with College and Career Readiness due to incomplete data.
  • There will be no changes to Literacy, Beyond the Core, Accelerated Enrollment, or Pathway Completion indicators.
  • There will be no changes to the four- and five-year cohort graduation rate calculations.
  • USED is requiring states to identify schools for SCI and TSI support in the fall of 2022.

Note: Due to the school closures in the spring of 2020, no state assessments were completed for the final three months of the school year. For this reason, no CCPRI score will be available for the 2020 school year.
